Improved CLEAN-AP for Dual-Polarization Alternating Transmission Weather Radar
Weather radar has become an indispensable tool for modern meteorological services around the world. The quality of radar data is related to the performance of various meteorological applications such as disastrous weather detection, precipitation estimation, and weather forecast. However, the existence of ground clutter will affect the quality of radar data. Ground clutter usually exists in low-elevation and / or close-range radar observations, which seriously affects the measurement of meteorological parameters such as power, speed, spectrum width and polarization parameters. Removing the influence of ground clutter can measure weather phenomena more accurately, so as to improve the performance of radar in meteorological applications. This paper introduces an adaptive filter based on autocorrelation spectral density, which can suppress the adverse effects of ground clutter without reducing the quality of meteorological data. The clutter environment analysis adaptive processing (CLEAN-AP) filter can adjust its suppression characteristics in real time to match the dynamic atmospheric environment and meet the suppression requirements of near space airshipborne typhoon radar. In the alternating polarization (AHV) mode, CLEAN-AP is affected by the coupling of phidp under the velocity estimation, and an improved scheme for AHV weather radar is proposed.
