A checklist for environmentally responsible research within the ICU
The growing awareness of climate change and its consequences for health-care highlight the need for environmentally responsible practices. The Green Paper by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) outlines strategies for environmentally sustainable intensive care units (ICUs), including directions for research [1].Although there are ample opportunities to reduce the environmental impact of research, sustainability is rarely addressed in current publications [2].In some societies, a sustainability statement is mandatory for research grant applications [3]; however, specific guidance on environmental sustainability for ICU researchers remains lacking. This paper provides a sustainability checklist for ICU researchers to standardize reporting, thereby ensuring transparency and promoting environmentally responsible research within ICUs.
