Gender, aesthetics, and performance in rhythmic gymnastics: challenges and transformations of bodies and identities in sport

The present work seeks to understand the path of Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) as a modality that develops hegemonically with female bodies, going against the grain of most sports. However, it is important to remember that GR is a sport like any other and can be practiced by anyone, regardless of gender. Its male aspect, Men's Rhythmic Gymnastics (GRM), still has little visibility and is in constant development, which makes its trajectory somewhat uncertain on the national and international scene. This study is centered on reflection based on bibliographical references focusing on the theme of the participation of men and women in GR. The present investigation constitutes an integrative literature review consisting of six studies. In this study, the continuous transformations of sports practice in a specific context that is rhythmic gymnastics were highlighted. In the past, there was a greater struggle for women to gain their place in the sport, and currently for men, to enter and remain in rhythmic gymnastics. Finally, it was found that strategies must be created so that young people, whether male or female, can access the sport they want without prejudice being a delimiter.
