Bile obstruction by ascaris resolved through endoscopy. Clinical case
Human parasitism is a continuous public health problem. It is estimated that 25% of the world’s population is affected by some parasitism. Ascaris lumbricoides is the most widely distributed helminthiasis at a cosmopolitan level. The case of a mechanical obstruction at the level of the bile duct secondary to helminths, whose resolution was through endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, is discussed. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography represents the method of choice, both diagnostic and therapeutic, with success in 90% of cases. Surgery is limited to only those cases with persistent symptoms or complications.
