Analysis of Can Loss Characteristics in Canned Induction Motors Based on the Poynting Vector

Canned Induction Motors (CIMs) are widely used in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and nuclear industries. The existence of the can sleeve in the air gap magnetic field complicates the calculation of the CIM's air gap magnetic field. While finite element calculations offer highly accurate simulation results, they require extended computation time. Consequently, this paper presents an analytical method based on the law of power conservation for indirectly calculating the magnetic field and the can loss. This method achieves computational accuracy that is comparable to finite element analysis, and offers advantages such as reduced calculation time. The correctness and accuracy of the analytical method were validated through finite element simulation and experimental verification, further elucidating on the variation laws of can loss under load conditions, and investigated the relationship between the can loss and the electrical properties of its material. This provides a robust foundation for analyzing and designing the CIMs, with significant engineering implications.
