Integrating Electric Vehicles into Smart Grids: Exploring Bidirectional Charging and V2G Technologies

This paper presents the design, simulation, and analysis of a novel switch controlled bidirectional charging system for electric vehicles (EVs), focusing on both Grid-to-Vehicle (G2V) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) operations. As the adoption of EVs accelerates, there is an increasing need to address the associated challenges of grid integration, power quality, and efficient energy management. The proposed system utilizes advanced control phase-locked loops (PLL) controller, to facilitate seamless energy flow between EV batteries and the power grid. Through MATLAB-Simulink simulations, the system's performance is validated, demonstrating stable voltage control, and efficient power transfer during both charging and discharging modes. The findings indicate that the bidirectional charging system significantly enhances grid stability and supports energy management, particularly during peak demand periods. This research contributes to the development of sustainable energy solutions, paving the way for the effective integration of EVs into the power-grid.
