Static Modeling of MRAS for Dynamic Performance Analysis – A Simulated Approach
Induction machine drive is one of the decent motor drives in industrial applications. The accurate and efficient performance is a significant requirement for most of the applications. Furthermore, in close loop applications where speed control is required, hardware components increase complexity and cost, hence sensorless techniques are widely used nowadays. Model reference adaptive system (MRAS) is one of the sensorless techniques for speed estimation in which machine reference and adaptive models are used to estimate the speed. This paper elucidates the philosophy of reference frame and presents the mathematical modeling of a flux-based model reference adaptive system for indirect rotor field-oriented control (IRFOC) scheme of a three-phase induction machine (IM) drive in stationary reference frames. Analyzing the behavior of different machine states is essential for precise speed control of the machine drives particularly during transients. The novelty of this investigation is to get an in-depth knowledge of transients and performance for the improvements in MRAS based speed sensorless techniques.
