Synergistic Benefits of LVRT and DSTATCOM for Enhanced Grid Stability in Renewable Energy Systems

Integration of Renewable energy sources like PV in the grid is quite difficult when voltage sags and faults disrupt the grid. The Synergy in the following article is to integrate LVRT with DSTATCOM for enhanced grid stability and quality of electricity, in a synergistic way. LVRT allows PV systems to stay connected during short-term voltage downtimes and avoid disconnection, while DSTATCOM provides dynamic reactive power support to help maintain voltage and prevent power quality problems. The new system was simulated under various fault scenarios and found that it provides much better voltage stability and THD reduction by $80\%$, compared with standard LVRT or DSTATCOM systems alone. The combination of these technologies, as demonstrated by our findings, delivers higher-quality grid resilience with uninterruptible power supply. The integrated approach has proven highly relevant in new, abundantly renewable energy-intensive power grids, and provides an affordable solution to more resilient and reliable energy infrastructure.
