Harmonic Distortion Analysis of Electric Vehicle Charging Using Real-Time Data
The Electric Vehicle (EV) sector isundergoing rapid expansion driven by the imperative shift fromfossil fuel-dependent transportation to sustainable mobility solutions. Advanced smart charging frameworks, such as Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), Vehicle-to-Building (V2B), and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), are presently under development. These paradigms facilitate bidirectional energy transfer between EVs and external systems, including the electrical grid, building infrastructures, and domestic appliances. With the increasing penetration of electric vehicles, it is crucial to analyze their potential adverse influences on power quality. Therefore, the impact of electric vehicle charging on the grid must be carefully considered. This work studies the interactions of multiple electric vehicle charging through laboratory experiments. In this work, we utilized multiple electric vehicles, Electric Vehicle Chargers (EVCs), MATLAB, and Yokogawa WT1803E precision power quality analyzer to acquire real-time data. Measurements were carried out on four electric vehicles (EVs) within a local distribution grid (DG).
