Spring-Based Weight Determination System for Railway Wagons by Leveraging Suspension Compression
The paper discusses a novel method for real-time weight measurement of open wagons like BOXNs used in coal transport in the railway sector. By utilizing the existing suspension system in wagon trolleys with spring nests, the compression of the spring is used to determine the wagon's weight. Monitoring the reduction in support height corresponding to spring compression, a simple system involving a pivoting bar and potentiometer is described. This approach eliminates the need for additional weighing bridges, provides real-time weight information, and enhances supervision and safety. This innovative method has the potential to revolutionize wagon weight measurement and improve efficiency and safety in the railway industry.
