Unified Multilingual Translation Framework for Linux Operating System
The multilingual mechanism serves as a crucial foundation for the Linux operating system to inherently support users in various regions with different languages. However, the existing mechanism works based on a direct binding between applications and translation files. Updates to multilingual system translations can only be carried out on a per-program basis, and must be supplemented or modified directly on the bound translation files with the programs. This significantly reduces the update efficiency of multilingual system translation and also limits the reuse of common translation resources. This paper proposes and implements a unified multilingual translation framework called UMLTrans tailored for the Linux operating system. UMLTrans provides multi-level layout and association model for translation files, then establishes rapid matching and synchronization of multilingual translation data among multiple softwares by adaptive translation. According to the evaluation and analysis on openKylin operating system, UMLTrans can enhance the efficiency of multilingual translation, ensure the consistency of translation data, reduce the maintenance cost of multilingual translation data, and promote the flexible construction and promotion of multilingual distributions based on Linux.
