Cell voltage equalization method for battery-powered applications

Unequal battery cell voltages in a series connected battery pack can reduce storage capacities and even lead to explosions or fires, posing a significant challenge to the safe and optimal functioning of battery-operated devices. Consequently, a cell voltage equaliser is essential for all battery power applications to maintain equal voltage and state of charge, regardless of their capacity levels. In this work, a passive cell voltage equalization method on lead acid (Pb), nickel-metal hybrid (NMH) and lithium-ion (Li-ion) has been investigated using a fixed shunt passive balancer approach, and simulation results have been provided to validate the results.
