Power Coordination for Enhanced Battery-Supercapacitor Integration by Proposed Modified Passive Topology
Hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) that integrate batteries and supercapacitors present a viable answer for applications necessitating both elevated energy and power density. Nevertheless, conventional passive topologies frequently constrain the performance of these systems. This research presents an innovative approach that integrates a power coordination controller to enhance power regulation within the HESS, overcoming the limitations of current techniques. The system utilizes distinct controllers for the battery and supercapacitor, each meticulously engineered to accommodate the special attributes of these components. These controllers produce control signals that are processed by a central power coordination controller, which functions as the primary decision-making unit. The advanced controller dynamically regulates power allocation between the battery and supercapacitor in real time, according to the load's instantaneous power requirements. This configuration enhances the performance of each energy storage device, prolonging battery longevity and optimizing supercapacitor efficiency while also ensuring adaptive power flow to accommodate fluctuating load demands. The proposed technology substantially enhances traditional passive HESS systems, providing improved system efficiency and performance. The developed power coordination controller was evaluated with dSPACE hardware, demonstrating its practical viability and efficacy in real-world applications. This development facilitates the creation of more resilient and efficient energy storage technologies for future uses.
