Sensor based Automatic Irrigation System

Due to scarcity of the water resource, the farmers expect a solution that changes the way to operate. Moreover, Intensive agricultural practices have adversely impacted soil quality, therefore it is necessary soil nutrient analysis for increasing farm productivity and environmental sustainability. Additionally, exponential population growth and enhancing demand, the farmers would require dedicated approach for irrigation to the land to achieve this demand. With advancement of latest technologies, there is scope to think about advancement in the irrigation system. Therefore, the paper presents sensor based automatic irrigation system. The condition of the soil is measured by soil moisture sensor which is already deployed in the field. Some threshold value is set, depending on the crop type. Based on the dry condition of soil, a notification is sent to the farmer’s mobile. Consequently, the pump would start to give water supply to the dry field. A prototype is developed to execute the proposed concept. The detailed methodology using flow chart is presented to give clear picture for researchers, academicians who are working in the agriculture field.
