Review and Outlook of Wind Power Forecast Techniques under Extremely Low Temperature
The speed of developing wind power resources in cold regions is accelerated, but the prediction accuracy of wind power under extremely low temperature weather is still poor. If wind power production cuts or outages due to extreme cold temperatures cannot be predicted, the grid will not be able to activate backup thermal power and other flexibility resources in a timely manner, resulting in loss of load. This paper reviews the existing wind power forecasting techniques from the perspective of extremely low temperature weather. Firstly, the prediction methods of wind power under conventional weather conditions are summarized. Secondly, different models of mapping meteorological elements to wind power loss value under extremely low temperature weather are discussed. Then, the influence of large error of weather forecast on wind power prediction under extremely low temperature weather is analyzed, the solutions of existing literature are summarized and the prospect is put forward. High precision wind power prediction in extreme cold weather not only requires more accurate and practical models of fan blade icing, but also needs to be combined with deviation correction methods for weather forecasting.
