Fall Detection, Gait and Tremor Analysis Using Inertial Measurement Unit for Parkinson’s Disease Patients
Recent advancements in wearable technology, particularly through Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), have significantly impacted the management of Parkinson’s disease. IMUs, incorporating accelerometers, gyroscopes, and often magnetometers, provide crucial data for analyzing gait and tremors. Tremor analysis is essential for Parkinson’s patients, as wearable IMUs measure tremor frequency, amplitude, and patterns, providing insights into the severity and progression of the disease, thereby aiding personalized treatment and monitoring intervention effectiveness. Gait analysis using IMUs examines walking patterns to provide detailed insights into weight distribution, stride length, cadence, balance, stability, and force distribution. These parameters help diagnose issues related to balance, strength, coordination, and asymmetries, which are common in Parkinson’s patients. This analysis facilitates treatment planning and rehabilitation, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
