Research on the Aircraft Stands Assignment Based on Two-Stage Genetic Algorithm

With the rapid development of the civil aviation industry, aircraft stands are playing a more and more vital role as a core resource in airport operations, so an efficient assignment of stands is crucial for improving airport efficiency. This paper first determines the flight transit time. As the factors influencing flight departure time are identified to predict departure time through the GRU network, the flight transit time can be determined based on arrival time and expected departure time. Then the U-shaped apron structure is analyzed and an aircraft stands assignment model is established based on the characteristics of U-shaped aprons. Finally, based on the flight transit time and the U-shaped apron aircraft stands assignment model, a two-stage genetic algorithm is used. It first calculates the airport gate rate and then optimizes the variance of idle time of stands under the condition that the airport gate rate is constant to obtain the aircraft stands assignment results. The experimental results show that the method improves the airport gate rate by 7.07% and reduces the idle time of stands by 61.94%. It further ensures the efficiency of airport operations by improving the airport gate rate while reducing the idle time of stands.
