Impact Analysis Of Plug In Electric Vehicle On Low Voltage Distribution Network
This study investigates the effects of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) charging on the low-voltage distribution grid using the IEEE 55-bus European Low Voltage Test Feeder. Four charging scenarios are analyzed: controlled charging, uncontrolled charging, random charging, and charging in the presence of solar PV, at penetration levels of 30% and 50%. OpenDSS software, interfaced with MATLAB, is used for the analysis. The results indicate that with uncontrolled charging at 50% penetration, both transformer loading and energy losses increase significantly. However, with controlled charging, transformer loading and energy losses remain within normal limits across all penetration levels. Additionally, strategically placing PEV chargers across each phase helps to reduce voltage imbalance.
