FinTech Knowledge Architecture Model for Reskilling and Talent Development in Mauritius

Mauritius has emerged as a strategic International Financial Centre (IFC) and while amongst its strategic objectives is to encourage Financial Technology (FinTech) innovation across Africa and beyond, the Mauritian FinTech industry is still found to struggle much with a significant skills gap, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This study investigates the relationship between industry knowledge, skills, and employee performance in the Mauritian FinTech industry, emphasizing the need for strong knowledge hub architecture as a technological solution to address these skill deficiencies. Using a cross-sectional survey of FinTech professionals and leaders, the research identifies industry knowledge and skill as the primary drivers of employee performance. A unique Knowledge, Skills, and Talent Development framework is proposed, integrating the Soft skills, Hard skills, Industry knowledge, Mindset and Experience (SHIME) framework and knowledge-based theory to enhance both hard and soft skills. The study further develops a Knowledge Architecture Model, designed to streamline knowledge management, promote reskilling, and support talent development in the FinTech ecosystem. By leveraging this architecture, the study aims to position Mauritius at the forefront of global FinTech innovation with the intention to ensure sustained growth and competitiveness in the rapidly evolving FinTech industry.
