The Evaluation of the validity of establishing the Drone Operation Command : focusing on military necessity and environmental suitability in Korea
The Drone Operation Command is being criticized for having various problems as it is in a hurry to create a physical unit without a careful review and verification process at the strategic and operational level. The study evaluated the validity of the establishment of the Drone Operation Command based on military necessity and environmental suitability in Korea. As a result of the evaluation, there were some positive factors in terms of military needs and effectiveness in achieving missions, but all other factors were negative. In conclusion, it can be said that the validity of the establishment of the Drone Operation Command is very low. Therefore, in the current situation where the Drone Operation Command has been established and operated, the best alternative is to develop the positive elements and to mitigate the negative elements. The areas that require continuous development are to improve the capability of anti-drone operations using killer drones and to secure early attack capabilities against the origin of North Korea's drone provocation. The areas that need to be mitigated are for the drone operation command to use the military services’ drone combat development systems rather than operating a separate system and to develop a transition plan in case of emergency so that it does not become an idle combat force during wartime.
