Axial Compressive Performance of Concrete Filled Steel Tubular Columns Constructed with Ultra High-Performance Concrete and Embedded Steel Profile
This research analyzes the behavior of concrete filled steel tubular columns constructed with ultra-high-performance concrete and embedded steel profile under axial loading conditions. For the development of the research, two types of columns, CFST + UHPC and CFST + UHPC + Steel Profile, have been analyzed. Numerical simulations have been used to analyze the influence of variables such as material properties, geometrical parameters, and embedded steel profile. The change in the strength of the concrete core and the embedded steel profile improve the axial load capacity of the CFST + UHPC and CFST + UHPC + Steel Profile columns. The results show that the concrete core strength and the embedded steel profile of the columns can cause an increase of 5.29% and 2.01% in the ultimate axial load. The geometrical parameters of the cross-section play an important role in the axial resistance of the columns. The increase in the E ratio and in the thickness of the steel tube allows an increase of 2.47% and 14.39% in the ultimate axial load. Additionally, the reduction of the Q ratio leads to a 13.16% increase in the ultimate axial load. The presence of the embedded steel profile in CFST columns significantly influences the strength capacity. The trends show that CFST + UHPC + Steel Profile columns show an 11.72% increase in ultimate axial load compared to CFST + UHPC columns.
