Literature Review on the Significance and Utilization of Space Innovation in Health Science Libraries
Medical libraries are facing transformations in space and services due to factors such as the digitization of collections, reductions in subscription budgets, and advancements in technology. This study particularly focuses on spatial changes by reviewing literature centered on the spatial innovations of American medical libraries, analyzing the major issues and practical solutions, and further exploring how library spaces can continue to provide value to users. These findings indicate that library spaces are shifting from traditional storage-centric facilities to user-focused environments that support learning and collaboration. In this process, librarians are expanding their roles as they lead spatial innovations. In 2023, Asan Medical Library completed a renovation project that applied insights drawn from both domestic and international examples, aligning with these evolving trends. Building on this experience, this study explores the significance and utilization of library spaces and offers strategic directions for medical librarians to effectively address future space-related challenges.
