A novel strain-dependent FEM model for metal powder compaction using Code_Aster

This study proposes a novel finite element model for metal powder compaction using the open-source software Salome-Meca, employing Code_Aster as a solver. The developed model incorporates a variable elastic modulus that changes as a function of the elemental strain within the geometry, enhancing the model’s ability to represent the evolving material properties during compaction, leading to more accurate predictions of stress distribution and densification. This approach not only enhances accessibility, but also demonstrates that high-quality simulations can be conducted without the need for expensive licenced software. • FEM model with elastic modulus varying based on elemental strain. • Improved representation of evolving material properties in compaction. • Model implemented in Salome-Meca using Code_Aster as the solver. • Simplified model predicts reaction forces via post-processing steps.
