FPGA Prototyping of DSP Algorithms for Wireless Communication Systems
The study presents a method for the development of DSP algorithm prototypes for wireless communication systems that involves the utilization of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Functional FPGAs offer a versatile and potent platform for the execution of real-time digital signal processing (DSP) operations, which are indispensable for satisfying the requirements of contemporary wireless technologies, including 5G and MIMO systems. The proposed approach enhances the design flow from the development of high-level algorithms to their implementation on hardware, with an emphasis on reduced power consumption, low latency, and resource efficiency. The case study illustrates the utilization of channel equalization, a critical function in wireless communication that is essential for the reduction of channel distortions. An adaptive filtering methodology is implemented. In comparison to conventional FPGA systems, the testing results indicate a 50% decrease in latency, a 30% decrease in power consumption, and an increase in throughput.
