Roz’s emotional growth through mood system analysis in The Wild Robot movie
This study examines the mood system in the utterance of Roz, the main character of The Wild Robot movie, using the Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL) framework. This study aims to analyze how Roz's language choices reflect her character development from a logical robot to an emotional being by using two main approaches: Halliday and Matthiesen's Mood System and Barrett's Constructed Emotion theory. The results reveal that Roz's choice of mood evolves along with her character development, progressing from the use of declarative, interrogative, and imperative which initially reflects her logical nature to showing empathy and emotional growth. This research contributes to linguistic studies by showing the interaction between language, emotion, and character development.
