OP-18 Presenting the updated priorities for palliative and end of life care research – a refresh of the palliative and end of life care research priority setting partnership

Introduction
The inclusion of the views and voices of people with lived experience of an issue is a critical step in ensuring that research is meaningful and impactful. The field of palliative and end of life care receives a small percentage of health research funding in the UK, yet is something that could benefit many people and families.
Aims
To inform the shape of future palliative and end of life care research, Marie Curie, the James Lind Alliance (JLA) and other partners undertook a refresh of the Palliative and end of life care Priority Setting Partnership (PeolcPSP) to identify the top 10 unanswered research questions in palliative and end of life care, with an emphasis on amplifying the voices of lived experience.
Methods
A lived experience group was established, alongside the steering group to shape and deliver the project. Between September 2023 and September 2024 sequential online surveys were open to members of the public and health and social care professionals to elicit and prioritise potential research questions. The final top 10 priorities were identified through a workshop attended by people affected by dying, death and bereavement and health and social care professionals.
Results
The updated top 10 research priorities for palliative and end of life care will be presented.
Conclusions
This work explored, from the perspectives of people affected by dying, death and bereavement in both personal and professional capacities, what the future priorities for palliative and end of life care should be. Impact updating priorities for palliative and end of life care research ensures that future research funding can be guided towards issues that have been identified as important by people affected by serious life limiting illness – as patients, friends, family members and professionals.
