Creating satisfied employees through workplace spirituality: The roles of job engagement and emotional intelligence

This paper aims to investigate how workplace spirituality and job satisfaction are related to emotional intelligence and job engagement. The study proposes a hypothesized model tested among 674 service sector employees selected through a convenience sampling technique. Mediation and moderation analyses are used to test the hypothesized relationships. The results of positive organizational studies indicate that job engagement significantly mediates the relationship between workplace spirituality and job satisfaction. Additionally, employees experience higher levels of job satisfaction in the presence of emotional intelligence. The paper contributes to the workplace spirituality literature by testing an integrated framework that incorporates job engagement as a mediator and emotional intelligence as a moderator. This study will help practitioners integrate their practices and programmes with workplace spirituality to improve job satisfaction and attain positive outcomes, which can further contribute to performance and productivity in service sector organizations. The proposed framework highlights the impact of workplace spirituality on job satisfaction while examining the mediation of job engagement and the moderation of emotional intelligence, which enriches the workplace spirituality literature.
