Relationship of the social resources of the OARS test with cognitive impairment in older adults
Objective: The relationship between social resources and cognitive impairment in MAPs was analyzed in a study conducted in Durango, Mexico. Using the OARS scale, the social support networks of 38 participants were evaluated. It was observed that 36.84% of MAPs had good social resources, while 26.3% had moderately or totally deteriorated resources, which implied a higher risk of cognitive impairment. This finding coincided with previous research that pointed out the negative impact of social isolation on physical and mental health, including the acceleration of neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia. It also highlighted the importance of social interactions as a means to stimulate cognitive functions and maintain autonomy in older adults. Therefore, this article provides valuable information that contributes to improving the quality of life of older adults in Durango by focusing on the importance of social resources to prevent and mitigate cognitive decline
