Een sociaal, veilig, gezond en activerend leefklimaat in detentie

A social, safe, healthy and activating living environment in detention This article describes the theoretical framework used in the development of the Prison Climate Questionnaire 2.0 (PCQ 2.0), an updated instrument to measure the living conditions in prisons. The questionnaire measures the perception of prisoners in four main domains of the living environment: a social, safe, healthy and activating living environment. The renewed questionnaire is not only in line with recent criminological literature, but also with international prison standards and Dutch legislation and regulations on detention conditions. The development of the PCQ 2.0 was part of the Life in Custody Study, in which it was administered to all detained adults in Dutch prisons in spring 2024.
