Teaching Ability, Practices, and Career Development of Chinese Engineering Faculty
This study aims to explore in depth the career development of engineering teachers in China, particularly the relationship between teaching ability, practices, and career development. The research results indicate that the teaching and research abilities of engineering teachers significantly affect their career development. Firstly, the survey shows that the teaching ability of teachers directly affects their job satisfaction and personal career development expectations in terms of professional knowledge application and innovative teaching methods. High level teaching ability not only enhances Faculty's performance in classroom teaching, but also contributes to their career growth. Secondly, research ability also plays an important role in the career development of teachers. Teachers with strong research abilities usually receive higher academic recognition, which provides a wide range of opportunities for their career development. In addition, it has been proven that Faculty's interpersonal communication skills are closely related to their career development. Teachers who excel in team collaboration and industry communication often have richer professional resources, thereby obtaining better career development opportunities. This study also revealed the impact of Faculty's job satisfaction, needs, and expectations on their career development. The survey found that although teachers generally hold a positive attitude towards their career development, there are still certain gaps in demand and expectations in terms of salary, career advancement opportunities, and working conditions. The significance of this study is to provide empirical evidence for education policy makers to further enhance the professional development environment for engineering teachers. Policy makers can take measures based on this to optimize the career growth path of teachers, such as providing more professional training opportunities and research support, improving Faculty's salary and working environment. It is recommended that universities and educational institutions focus on the professional growth needs of teachers in their career development plans, enhance their job satisfaction, and strengthen cooperation between universities and enterprises to provide more practical and development opportunities for engineering teachers.
