Preoperative and Postoperative Evaluation of Growth and Development of Patients with Crouzon Syndrome: Case Series Aligned with SDG Health Goals

Introduction: Crouzon syndrome is the most common craniofacial syndrome, characterized by a spectrum of clinical manifestations with "varying degrees of severity". Patients with such a condition are at risk of experiencing diverse developmental outcomes. Unfortunately, Crouzon syndrome often remains undiagnosed, and treatment or corrective procedures are frequently delayed. Recent investigations on Crouzon syndrome primarily focus on genetic analysis, diagnostic methods, and surgical treatments, but only a few evaluate growth and development of patients with such a condition before and after surgical procedures. Therefore, this study aimed to present a case series evaluating growth and development of patients with Crouzon syndrome. Objective: This study reported three cases of Crouzon syndrome, assessing patients' development using the Kuisioner Pra Skrining Perkembangan (KPSP) adapted from Developmental Prescreening Questionnaire. Method: A case series was conducted to evaluate growth and development of patients with Crouzon syndrome, both before and after surgical treatment. Clinical Case: The results showed that patients had significant development after the surgery despite delays in the treatment. One patient with comorbidities experienced further developmental challenges, exacerbating the effects of Crouzon syndrome. Another patient who refused surgical treatment eventually developed an intellectual disability. Conclusion: This case series showed that growth and development of patients with Crouzon syndrome were significantly influenced by the timely correction of craniosynostosis. Early diagnosis, prompt treatment, and consistent evaluation of growth and development before and after surgery were essential for improving the quality of life of patients with Crouzon syndrome. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature that Developmental screening is a critical process in early childhood care that aims to identify developmental delays or disorders at an early stage. This process involves the use of standardized tools to assess a child's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development by practical healthcare provider]. The relevance and value of this research are evidenced by [explain how the important growth and developmental screening may impact the area of study or surgeop and intervention team at crouzon syndrome].
