Linear Actuator Performance Assessment for Solar Cell Maximum Power Tracking

This article reports the assessment of linear actuator performances when it is used for maximum power tracker (MPPT) with a single driver. The assessment was performed for single and double solar cell loads weights of 7.5 kg and 15 kg. The assessment shows that the system is not efficient where the linear actuator consumes up to 52.9 W power. The consumed power by the actuator is higher than the solar cell power output improvement. Even dough linear actuator produces a more stable movement than the stepper motor, the capability of linear actuator for heavier load should be further examined.
