Analysis of Flux Distribution Effect on Mitred and Butted Transformer Core
This study investigated the effect of flux spread on mitered and butted junctions in transformer cores through thermal images by Visual IR Thermometer and visualization using a Quick Field simulation application. This research focuses on understanding how joint configurations impact magnetic field distribution and transformer performance. The simulation involves creating detailed geometric models of transformer cores, including mitered and butted junctions, with relevant material properties using Cold Rolled Grain Oriented (CRGO) silicon steel. The magnetic field is simulated under certain loading conditions to analyze the flux spread inside the transformer core. The results revealed an understanding of magnetic field patterns. The results of IR Thermal visualization in the core of the mitered joint type transformer, the temperatures (equivalent magnetic flux concentrations) are 24.85 °C and 28.25 °C for magnetic flux injected in the range of 0.9 Tesla and 1.6 Tesla compared to 29.51 °C and 30.38 °C for the same values of injected magnetic flux on the butted joint. Meanwhile, Quick Field visualization shows the difference in color spots of magnetic flux distributions in the magnetic core that turquoise color is dominant in the butted joint area in butted joint.
