Development of Low-Cost Single Cardiac System Using Nylon Ripstop Based Conductive Dry ECG Sensor for Resource Constrained Settings
Recent technology advancement in the field of wearable cardiac care devices have shown tremendous improvements towards remote screening as well as reduction of mortality rate. The reason behind this is due to the development of dry ECG sensors that can withstand continuous long-term monitoring of cardiac rhythms. The reliability of dry ECG sensor merely depends on the conductive material selection. This specific research work suggests the development of a novel nylon ripstop based dry ECG sensor with chest lead configuration to record single channel biopotential recordings. The miniaturized electronic assembly with the chest belt helps in continuous recordings of ECG for 6 hr. The developed system was tested for its conductivity impedance, signal quality, fidelity points measurements, washability as well as reliability. Experimental study with 56 volunteers showed the efficiency of the designed dry ECG sensor with an average SNR(Signal-to-Noise Ratio)=60.76db,PSNR(Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$=\mathbf{6 4. 5 d B}$</tex>.Further the study revealed the remarkable performance of the designed device compared to that of the traditional <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{A g}-\text{AgCl}$</tex> wet electrodes. Clinical Relevance-A low cost cardiac device to cater the need of resource constrained settings as a screening tool.
