Healthcare Institutions Readiness Towards Blockchain Technology Adoption: A Case Study of Hospitals in Ethiopia
This study aimed to evaluate healthcare staff attitudes toward blockchain technology, determine the current readiness level of hospitals in Ethiopia for blockchain technology adoption, and examine the relationship between attitude and adoption readiness. The research design was mixed-method, with participants selected through purposive and simple random sampling from Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital and Armed Forces Comprehensive Specialized Hospital in Addis Ababa, totaling 75 individuals. Researchers gathered data using structured questionnaires and conducted semi-structured interviews. They analyzed this data employing descriptive statistics and content analysis methodologies. The study revealed that hospital staff generally hold neutral to positive attitudes towards blockchain technology's perceived usefulness and ease of use. Moreover, TASH has a low readiness score, while AFCSH has a medium readiness score. The combined readiness assessment of the two hospitals was found to be low. A weak positive correlation was found between staff attitudes and readiness (r = 0.016 and p < 0.01). It is recommended that TASH take immediate strategic measures to improve its readiness levels. In contrast, AFCSH requires some minor to moderate improvements in cybersecurity measures, staff training programs, and robust governance strategies before adopting blockchain technology
