The design and development of a highly efficient printed dual-band MIMO antenna for futuristic satellite communication

A highly efficient Multiple-input and Multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is designed and developed. The proposed antenna has 38.6 and 54.6 GHz resonant frequencies. The antenna uses an RT Duroid 5880 substrate with a thickness of 0.508 mm. The dimension of the suggested structure is 5.3 mm × 12.2 mm × 0.508 mm, which is equivalent to 0.0418 λ × 0.0963 λ× 0.00401 λ, where λ represents the wavelength of free space at the resonance frequency of 38.6 GHZ.The proposed antenna is made with a conventional rectangular patch, that is changed by etching two H-shaped slots that are rotated 90o and are symmetrical, which results in dual mode operation. In addition, a T-shaped slot is engraved on the top of the patch to enhance the antenna’s bandwidth, and the structure exhibits a 37.09% increment in the bandwidth for the first resonance band. The proposed structure is a promising option for compact smart 5G devices.
