MODERN SHABTIS AND “EGYPTIANIZING” ARTIFACTSIN TRANSYLVANIAN COLLECTIONS
This article presents four objects from the collections of the National Museum of Transylvanian History, produced in the modern era, and which refer to ancient Egyptian culture. Two of them are modern shabtis, and the other two are objects made in the Egyptian style. The modern shabti statuettes were moulded in Egypt in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with the intention to imitate ancient objects and to be sold as souvenirs for tourists. The other two modern bronze objects are of Egyptian inspiration and do not copy authentic Egyptian artifacts.
