THE ROMAN TRANSALPINA
This study investigates the Roman Transalpina route and its relation to the modern Transalpina road (DN67C) in the Parâng and Șureanu Mountains. By analyzing newly identified marching camps at Rânca and Poiana Muierii alongside previously known sites like Crac-Găuri and Vârful lui Pătru, the paper reconstructs the Roman military advance towards the Dacian fortresses. Using digital tools such as Airborne Laser Scan (ALS) and Least Cost Path (LCP) analysis, the research clarifies the trajectory of Roman routes, highlighting the strategic planning behind their construction. The inclusion of these camps in the UNESCO World Heritage List underlines their historical significance, offering insights into Roman logistics and mountain warfare.
