Analysis of changes in intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma after cataract surgery
Objective. To conduct a retrospective analysis of the dynamics of intraocular pressure (IOP) and identify factors affecting it in patients with cataracts and concomitant glaucoma after phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation. Material and methods. The study included 104 cases (79 patients). All patients were divided into two groups: the first group included 73 cases (70.2 %) when there was no hypertension in the postoperative period or it turned out to be insignificant (less than 3 mmHg). The second group consisted of 31 cases (29.8 %) with significant hypertension (more than 3 mmHg). Results. A significant increase in IOP (by 3 mmHg or more) on the 1st day after surgery occurred in 29.8 % of cases and was more often observed in the eyes of patients with stage II and III glaucoma, as well as in those receiving monotherapy (carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, beta blockers or prostoglandin analogues). Conclusion: Underestimation of the degree of ophthalmotonus compensation, i.e. failure to achieve the target IOP before surgery, is one of the risk factors for the development of reactive hypertension in these patients later.
