Modified U-Net based Framework for Laparoscopic Procesures
This paper casts a spotlight on how AI can team up with laparoscopic surgery to boost the in-the-moment precision and overall outcomes of these procedures. This exploration is grounded in a wide-ranging survey of the literature that taps into several crucial topics: the U-Net architecture’s role in image segmentation, the essential "critical view of safety" in performing gallbladder removals, and how deep neural networks are changing the game when it comes to understanding and interpreting images. The research took advantage of a large dataset of cholecystectomy images, the CholecSeg8K, divided into bite-sized, high-resolution patches for intensive training and testing of the CNN models. The paper introduces a tuned-up modified U-Net based framework that also includes ensemble of other stellar models like VGG16 and ResNet 34 to take high accuracy. The evaluation of results has stamped the efficacy of the proposed framework.
