Design and Analysis of 2.4 GHz Power Amplifier for 5G New Radio Wi-Fi Applications
This paper deals with the design and analysis of a Power Amplifier (PA) for communications applications. The design uses the NMOS transistor with passive circuit elements. The PA circuit is designed by using Process Design Kit (PDK) libraries of 45 nm technology and Cadence Virtuoso Design Framework. The circuit configuration uses a MOS transistor with a power stage and a driver circuit to meet the specifications. The circuit operates in a 2390-2410 MHz frequency range with a center frequency of 2.4 GHz. The circuit is configured to support Wi-Fi applications for IEEE 802.11n standard with greater coverage area, capacity, and better penetration into solid objects. The circuit is designed with a Power Added Efficiency (PAE) of 60 and a matching load of 50 Ω targeting an output power of 20 dBm. The transient analysis for functionality checking and power distribution analysis using Scattering Parameters is performed using Periodic Steady-State Analysis (PSS) over a power range of -30 to 10 dBm with a load-pull power contour spectrum.
