Electric Vehicle Integration as virtual inertia for frequency control in two-area hybrid microgrid system

This article discusses the development and analysis of a two-area load frequency control (LFC) hybrid microgrid system that integrates both renewable and conventional energy sources. In each area, renewable energy sources are integrated alongside conventional generators to enhance system sustainability and reliability. A proposed 2-degree of freedom tilt integral derivative fuzzy (2-DOF TIDF FUZZY) controller is designed and implemented to investigate its effectiveness in minimizing the fluctuations in tie-line power and frequency under varying load conditions. Additionally, an Electric Vehicle (EV) is employed as virtual inertia to dampen oscillations in frequency deviations caused by random load changes, thereby improving system stability. Simulation results show that the proposed control strategy excels in maintaining frequency stability and minimizing tie-line power deviations, providing a strong solution for future microgrid applications.
