Design and Implementation of Low-cost Remote Monitoring Scheme for Power and Distribution Transformers

This project is about design and implementation of a system to monitor and record key parameters of a powerand distribution transformer like oil level, temperature of top and bottom oil of transformers, ambient temperature, tap changing operation count etc. The system of on-line monitoring system integrates IoT sensors with EDGE computing capacity, fitted in the different parts of the transformers with a global service mobile (GSM) gateway. It is installed at the transformer site and the values of these parameters are sent to a database server residing in CESC’s premises. A web application has been developed in-house, which shows these parameters and variation of the same over time. Apart from that it not only captures the instantaneous data but also stores the data for thirty days in the server so that if any history, regarding the performance of the assets are required then the data can be easily fetched offfrom the server. Most important feature of it is thatduring healthy condition the instantaneous values recorded will be displayed in green colour at the softwareand if any of the monitored parameters, exceed or go below the preset threshold value then the color, displayed in green for that parameter will automatically change to red color. Along with that an alarm in the formof SMS and mail will be sent to the registered user, who can then take necessary actions and resolve the problemover there.
