Design and Implementation of a Weight-Based Goods Sorting System Using Robot Arm 5 DOF

Large companies today compete in terms of innovation to enhance overall productivity by leveraging their technology with high speed, accuracy, reliability, and ease of operation as tools to support their productivity. Another challenge faced in the industry is the continuous weighing and sorting of objects. Regarding labour and time-related issues, one solution that can be employed is a manipulator robot. Therefore, this system provides an integrated approach to issues in the delivery, logistics, and packaging industries. Based on this background, this research is conducted to design a sorting application system for a 5 - degree of freedom (DOF) robot arm with 1 gripper, equipped with a load cell as a weight sensor, and controlled by Arduino. The developed system will function to sort objects based on weight categories. The weight sensor can provide accurate and precise measurements, which are crucial in ensuring the robot works precisely according to the commands. With this information, the robot can adjust its movements according to the carrying load and prevent overloading. This research aims to produce a robot arm capable of moving loads of 10 grams, 15 grams, 20 grams, 25 grams, and 30 grams in specified directions and angles, following a predefined program on Arduino.
