Implementation of Transmit Power Adaptation Algorithm on VANET Testbed Using SDN OpenFlow
In vehicular networks (VANETs), periodic beaconing is crucial for guaranteeing vehicle safety and improving traffic efficiency. However, frequent beaconing with high transmission power can lead to co-channel interference and reduce beacon reception ratio. This paper proposes an implementation of a Transmit Power Adaptation (TPA) algorithm on a VANET testbed using the OpenFlow protocol. The TPA algorithm dynamically adjusts the transmission power of vehicles based on network conditions to achieve a balance between communication range and beacon reception ratio. The OpenFlow protocol is employed to enable centralized control and efficient resource management within the VANET testbed. The paper details the system model, the TPA algorithm design, and the implementation using the OpenFlow protocol. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach effectively reduces co-channel interference and improves beacon reception ratio compared to fixed transmission power schemes.
