Teachers Perspectives on College Students as STEM Promoters
The increasing demand in for STEM skills in a rapidly evolving job market, it is essential to motivate school children towards STEM education. Considering the dire numbers and statistics about gross enrolment ratio, dropouts and student teacher's ratios, it was proposed to make use of college students as STEM promoters. The present study explores a two tier Tripod model called Estimate- Measure- Perceive -Analyze to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education among school children. The experiment designed was conducted across more than 600 schools spanning 12 Indian States. The study examines school teacher's perception about college students as STEM promoters in engaging the schoolchildren towards STEM education. The findings highlight importance of the two tier approach used and provided guidelines to inculcate social and outreach responsibilities among college students at the same time increasing STEM education motivation among school children.
