High-Precision Fracture Identification: The Role of Convolutional Neural Networks in Orthopedics
The research work is related to diagnosing a bone fracture using CNN on X-ray images. The collection is done by combining multi-region X-ray images and classifying them into two classes: bone fractured and non-fractured. This work illustrates a more precise classifying automated fracture detection, which is one of the critical needs in diagnoses of medicine. For effective treatment, early and precise identification of bone fractures is necessary by means of a diagnostic. The code implemented a CNN architecture using PyTorch and displayed the performance of the model on both the training and development sets. The result at the end of 30 epochs shows a development accuracy of $95.01 \%$ with a corresponding loss of 0.18, hence the model is very robust in classifying bone fractures in that regard. Tracking different performance metrics, such as accuracy and loss during epochs, prevents overfitting of the model. Concretely, it can enhance the clinical workflow by excluding most of the errors typical for manual diagnostics and hasten the process of identifying fractures, which will lead to better patient outcomes. These results further the existing works in the field of artificial intelligence in Healthcare and present a dependable solution to bone fracture detection that can be deployed in real-world clinical settings. Further work could be done in the direction of enlargement of this data set by increasing classes or other types of fractures and also optimizing the model to find out how the model can serve best in a clinical setting.
