The Art of Institutional Advancement: How Campus Artifacts Support Fundraising in Higher Education
Abstract: Both institutional advancement offices and campus artifacts are essential to the fundraising efforts of colleges and universities. When fused strategically, campus artifacts and institutional advancement practices have resulted in unprecedented fundraising success for higher education. Through three case studies—1) art and the selling of art collections, 2) architecture and the naming process, and 3) social media pages and marketing/branding, this literature review proves the reciprocal nature of campus artifacts and fundraising agendas; it curates evidence from both higher education and institutional advancement literature and defines and categorizes campus artifacts. Implications for other uses of campus artifacts in higher education administration conclude the review.
