Game-based Automated Neurotraining Platform for Bionic Prosthetic Placements
Over the last decade, despite technological advancements in bionic devices, the prosthetic abandonment rate has remained at $50 \%$ or higher. This indicates that the technical capabilities of upper-limb prostheses are not the most relevant aspect in long-term prosthetic adherence. Research has determined that well-structured and patient-tailored prosthetic training on the ability to generate myoelectrical signals is a major determinant in prosthetic adherence over time. As prostheses become more affordable, the volume of prosthetic placements rises, increasing the need for experienced occupational therapists—a need that is unfortunately not being met. Therefore, this system aims to automate the personalization of the neurotraining process through a game interface, enhancing the scalability of the human factor and alleviating the burden of repetitive drills for both the patient and the facilitator. This work presents a novel approach that combines personalized gamification and myoelectric proficiency quantification to revolutionize rehabilitation practices within the bionic industry.
