Analysis of Service Based Architecture to Seek Energy Savings in 5G and Beyond Networks
The requirement of sustainable development is growing exponentially. This has created a need for integrating sustainability in Mobile Communication Network. Due to high percentile, energy-saving efforts are majorly focused on Radio Access Network. However there are significant opportunities to reduce energy consumption in the Core Network. With the adoption of Service-Based Architecture (SBA) in 5G Core Network, not all services are utilized simultaneously. The network services continue to draw power despite being in an idle state. This creates a need for energy savings in the network. The aim of this paper is to analyze the SBA of the Core Network to increase the efficiency of the network by dynamically deactivating the services which are idle for a long duration. Results shows 0.6-31% Energy Saving under different scenarios compared to current NF based Energy Saving. Furthermore, we present scenarios where the proposed strategy could be more beneficial.
